How long have you lived in Bookham? 33 years Why did you volunteer for the Bookham Vision project? Not originally a volunteer, I was asked if I would take it on. After some time understanding what was required, and meeting others who had volunteered, I decide that it was something very worthwhile. I thought my background and experience gave me a good chance of co-ordinating the very enthusiastic and qualified team to produce something meaningful. What skills/experience do you bring to the Bookham Vision team? I have held senior management positions for many years, mostly in start-ups where planning and creating something from nothing was the task. But it’s probably my 18 years as Chairman and then President of the Effingham and Leatherhead Rugby Club that equips me most for running this steering committee! No offence meant team, but that is where I learned to work with Volunteers. Are you involved in any other Bookham related activities (voluntary, clubs etc)? Apart from this I’m a member of the Bookham Decorative and Fine Arts Society
What are your interests/hobbies? My lifelong interest has been Rugby as a player and as an administrator. It is a sport which still has a very strong ethos where discipline, sportsmanship, humour and teamwork are still very important. As well as supporting our local club, I am Treasurer and Secretary of Surrey County Rugby Football Union. I also am a keen Golfer, when my ailing knees allow me to play.
