Giving Something Back To Bookham  find out how you can help the many local charities and voluntary organisations

We held a Volunteer Fair in January 2010.  Many of you had indicated in our household survey that you'd like to volunteer to help local charities and voluntary organisations.  There's a lot of good work goes on in Bookham to help Bookham's younger residents and those in need.  If you'd like to see how you can help, and give something back to Bookham for 2010, take a look below at those groups who took part in the fair ...

The local Scouts, the Brownies and the Guides organisations could always do with help - if you want to help young people reach their full potential, or can help with accounts, or perhaps set up a web page, or put your green fingers to good use, you name it, these worthy groups could do with your help.  For the Scouts contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Bookham Youth Centre is also on the lookout for people who enjoy mucking in with the occasional working party.  To see how you can help, get in touch with Sue Lawrence This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Perhaps you could offer your support to the likes of Home-Start, who support young families ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or the Bookham Help Your Neighbour Scheme which provides transport for those in need for medical appointments or occasional visiting or shopping.  All you need is a car and a little spare time every now and then, and you can be a real help to a local elderly resident. To find out how you can help, call Jean Marlow on 01372 457330

Or how about Surrey Young Carers, who offer free impartial information and support to young carers.  Take a look at their website by clicking here

And there's the Princess Alice Hospice which gives outstanding end of life care to adult parents free of charge. To see how you can help email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or click here

The Children's Trust in Tadworth provides care, education, therapy and rehabilitation to children with multiple disabilities, complex health needs and acquired brain injury.  They always need volunteers to help in a number of ways from story telling to emptying collection boxes.  Email David Farrell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Grange Centre (click here) needs volunteers to assist staff in planning tasks and projects as well as working alongside their clients, being a vital pair of extra hands.  Creative Art and Textiles or Horticulture being just two areas of activity.  Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Bookham is lucky enough to have its beautiful common and Polesden Lacey to adorn its surroundings.  The National Trust depends on volunteers to keep it that way.  To see how you can help with Bookham Common email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Bookham Residents Association (click here) and the Bookham Community Association (click here) do a tremendous amount to promote and maintain that wonderful village look and feel that many of you praised in our surveys.  They could always do with more members.
